Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Maternal health is a critical issue in many parts of Nigeria, with high maternal mortality rates linked to inadequate healthcare services, lack of awareness, and cultural barriers. In Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, radio campaigns have been employed as a tool to raise awareness about maternal health, promote safe delivery practices, and encourage the use of healthcare services. Radio, with its wide reach and accessibility, has proven to be an effective medium for health communication, particularly in rural areas where other forms of media may be less accessible (Adamu & Sule, 2023; Bello & Iliyasu, 2024). This study examines the impact of radio campaigns on maternal health awareness in Damboa, focusing on how these campaigns influence knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to maternal health.
